Many households now have extra security measures in place including CCTV and recording doorbells. What is the harm in that we hear you say?
Quite simply put, these are often used by perpetrators of domestic abuse to monitor their victim’s movements when leaving the property and when they re-enter. Some households have numerous bells allowing the perpetrator to know not only when someone has left the house but by which door!
Increasing concerns have come to light these have been misused in cases where the perpetrators get notifications when their partner is leaving the house, including video footage of what they are wearing and of course what time they return. This can lead to coercive control resulting in questions as to their whereabouts at any given time. This is domestic abuse.
It is important that any security measures are a joint decision, and are not used to focus on movements of partners.
